Firth Park Academy Celebrates GCSE Results
We are all so very proud to celebrate the achievements of our remarkable students and so glad that we all made meticulous efforts to run a safe and successful exam results day, one of only a handful of Sheffield schools to do so.
Our Year 11’s of 2020 have faced difficulties like no other due to the Coronavirus lockdown, cancellation of exams and uncertainty over how their exam results might be moderated by an algorithm rather than the teachers who know them best. However, our students have achieved wonderfully well and deserve every bit of their success.
They have been the first group of students in a generation to have spent every day of their school career in an Ofsted Good school. They have also been our hardest working year group, thanks to our Extended School Day offering them the benefit of an extra lesson every day, with a large number of our most aspirational students also staying for one-to-one online tuition. This dedication on top of academic ability and strong characters have led to brilliant results.
Thanks to this success, our students will now progress on to remarkable futures. This year the following students did particularly well and will go on to pursue a number of exciting post-16 paths:
Three students, Abaseno Ekong, Tiffany Kibutu and Destiny Ehimwenma have earned scholarships to study at Birkdale School.
Amy Barker plans to pursue a career in teaching, by studying A-Levels in history, psychology and sociology at Tapton.
Iqrah Naz also wants to pursue a career in medicine and will be studying biology, chemistry and psychology A-Levels at King Edward VII.
This year our students achieved another improvement in their English and mathematics combined GCSE results, with 58% securing a Grade 9 – 4 in English and mathematics, a 14% improvement and 37% achieving strong Grade 5 passes. Students studying the Performing Arts of dance, music and music technology were also incredibly successful with 100% of students achieving a Level 2 Pass or above.
There were so very many stories of students who had made tremendous progress during their time at Firth Park Academy and we were excited to celebrate with students who had exceeded their targets whether that was to achieve Grade 4 or Grade 9. It was as ever a privilege to see a number of students secure the very top grades:
Josh Saunders: 7 grade 9s, 1 grade 8, 1 grade 7
Abubakar Younis: 5 grade 9s, 4 grade 8s
Mariam Pervaiz: 4 grade 9s, 4 grade 8s, 1 grade 7
Bradley Cartwright 2 grade 9s, 7 grade 8s
Ahmed Obaid: 4 grade 9s, 3 grade 8s, 2 grade 7s
In summary, we are delighted for our students and so proud of the incredible effort they have put in during their time at Firth Park. Even though our students were not able to take their final exams, their results today show the hard work they have put in during their time at school and are a fair reflection of the commitment they show every day. In a time of incredible challenge, they should be very pleased with how well they have done. We also want to pay tribute to the support of wonderful parents/carers and our excellent teachers and staff members who have supported them to make this possible.
Our ambition is to ensure that every student is able to go on and lead a remarkable life. These results show that this is clearly happening at Firth Park Academy, and we have every faith that these students and many more in years to come will go on to have very bright futures
