Y9 KS4 Options Evening - Thursday 6 February 2020
Uniform Expectations - Monday 9 December 2019
A number of children have been kept out of lessons today and given work to do in the hall because they did not meet the full uniform expectations of the academy as they either did not have their blazer, tie, correct trousers, skirt or footwear that does not meet uniform policy requirements. Some students failed to co-operate with us and have consequently been fixed term excluded.
With specific regard to footwear there has previously been debate and differences of opinion about the appropriateness of what are known as Nike Air Force 1s or similar. Following a review, consideration of all the publicity material for these which indicate they are actually trainers and not shoes and further discussion within the academy, it has now been deemed that for the purposes of clarity and consistency these will no longer be acceptable.
Where non-compliance with our expectations remain, students will continue to be kept out of lessons until they have resolved the outstanding issues and meet the requirements of the academy by wearing the full academy uniform. The Academy will consider supporting parents who have financial difficulties based on individual needs, but students will still remain isolated until any issues are resolved.
Senior Leadership Team
Parent Voice Group
In order to work more closely with parents/carers and to provide an opportunity for their views to be heard and acted upon, Broadlands will be setting up a Parent Voice group who will meet monthly. This forum will be chaired by the parents with an agenda driven by the parents. The minutes from these meetings will be shared with all parents/carers via email so that you can see what has been discussed and any outcomes from the discussion.
We would like to hold the first meeting on Thursday 14 November at 5.30pm at the Academy. Ideally we would be looking for between 5 and 15 parents who have students in a range of year groups across the Academy.
In the first meeting we will share the findings from the recent parent survey, elect a chairperson, discuss current areas for development and agree future agenda items. If you are interested in joining this group, please email firstname.lastname@example.org as soon as possible to confirm your interest.
