Welcome to Broadlands Academy Connect

We are a small inclusion unit for students with social, emotional and mental health needs (SEMH). Connect is part of Broadlands Academy and students who attend the provision are on the roll of the mainstream school.

Staff at Connect work closely with teachers in the mainstream to plan and deliver a broad and balanced curriculum that meets the requirements set out in the National Curriculum.

Students accessing Connect use this as their base and register in Connect

each morning. Students have personalised timetables that carefully consider the

needs and interventions outlined in their Education, Health and Care plans. The

majority of the students have timetables which enable them to spend some time in

Connect receiving 1:1 or small class tuition alongside time in mainstream lessons,

supported by a Teaching Assistant who knows their needs well and access to

Alternative Provisions where appropriate. Most students also access the mainstream site and cafe at break and lunch.

It is our aim to address any learning gaps, build students’ resilience, self-

confidence and self-esteem and enable students accessing Connect to return to a

timetable where the majority of their lessons are in the mainstream.

Parents and carers are vital in supporting the success of Connect for those

attending. All parents and carers are asked to meet regularly with staff to support

with adherence to policies, in school interventions and learning at home.
