The overarching responsibility for Governance of the academy lies with the Academies Enterprise Trust (AET) Board of Trustees.

Broadlands Academy - Governing Board Composition and Key Information

Jonathan De Sausmarez - Chair of Management Board and Regional Director of Education, AET

Jonathan has over 20 years’ experience as a senior leader, with 15 of those years being in the role of Headteacher / Executive Headteacher. In 2011 Jonathan obtained his National Leader of Education status. Jonathan started his career as a music teacher in Merseyside and also worked in Gloucestershire and Hampshire. Areas of professional expertise include the delivery of school improvement, strategic organisational change, curriculum design and leadership.

Jonathan is passionately committed to securing high quality education for all pupils and to developing colleagues through sustained coaching and leadership. School improvement with dignity is very much at the heart of how he works with colleagues. As Regional Director of Education for the South and West region, Jonathan works in close collaboration with Principals and senior colleagues to secure rapid school improvement and the best possible progress for all pupils.

Karen Godsall

Karen is Principal of New Forest Academy in Hampshire, which is a thriving 11-18 comprehensive AET academy, educating children of all abilities.

Astrid Broderstad

Astrid Broderstad is a Management Consultant who specialises in the Education Sector and has 15 years of experience in all aspects of school business management. Astrid is qualified in human resource management, accountancy and project management and started her first business in the electronics industry in 1983. Astrid went on to become a Board member for several large companies and has worked with many Education Trusts, academies and schools, responsible for budgets in excess of £10m. She has a proven track record of success in both the private and public sector. Astrid has previously worked as the Business Manager at Broadlands Academy and is Clerk to the Management Board.

Richard Smale

Richard Smale is Director of Transformation working for the NHS. In addition to this, he is currently Vice Chairman of Keynsham Town Juniors Football Club. The Club have had a long standing relationship with Broadlands from whom they hire the Broadlands sports fields and facilities.

As a member of the Management Board of Broadlands Academy, Richard is the responsible Governor for Finance and Premises.

Chris Butt

Chris is CEO of Cognisess, a Bath-based company and provider of people analytics software to organisations, combining neuroscience, machine learning data analytics and game-based assessment. Cognisess is democratising human capital – taking the bias out of people processes to make it fairer, more efficient and accurate for candidates, employees and employers to make the right choice. An entrepreneur with senior commercial, marketing and publishing experience in the financial, media and software sectors. He founded the direct marketing agency, TMR, and became publisher and Editor of BusinessAge. Later appointed Commercial Director of global publisher, FoodBev & Head of Publishing for the ONS.
