Accelerated Reader is a program used by our library to help students manage their own reading, to provide our teachers with assessment of the reading ability of a student, and to encourage reading.

A system is used to level books by using the ATOS reading formula which includes: average sentence length, average word length, vocabulary grade level, and number of words in the books and assessment of a student's reading level through the STAR (Standardized Test for the Assessment of Reading) test is used to assess their comprehension of each book.

It encourages students to read independently, at their own level and pace with the idea behind AR is that children enjoy reading more when they can select their own books - the program has more than 150,000 titles to choose from on its Book Finder list.

Accelerated Reader can also help improve students' knowledge on many different varieties of books and also raises their vocabulary.
