45% secure a Grade 9 – 4 in Maths and English
Examples of some exceptional student performance at the top Grades 9-7
45% of students at Bexleyheath Academy, part of Academies Enterprise Trust, secured a standard pass or higher (Grades 9-4) in English and Maths combined, and almost one in four achieved a strong pass or higher (Grades 9-5) in GCSE results published today. That represents a 1% point and 2% point improvement respectively.
2019 saw the introduction of the new exams in virtually all GCSE subjects. A new grading system is in place, with 9 – 1 grades replacing the old A* - G. Under the new system a Grade 7 equates to an A and a 4 is equivalent to the old C grade. The new grade 9 was designed to challenge and reward the very brightest and best students across the country.
Bexleyheath performed well in last week’s A Level results, with well over half of students students securing A* - C and 29% achieving the top grades of A* - B in an A Level qualification, with an Average Point Score of 27.6. In the vocational arena, sixth form students also achieved some impressive outcomes, with 100% of students passing their Applied General qualifications, and 90% achieving a Merit grade or above.
Graeme Napier, Headteacher of Bexleyheath Academy said:
“Dawid, Harley and Naomi both achieved eight grades 7-9 across all of their qualifications today, with Dawid achieving a total of six grade 9s. These are incredible achievements for these students, and it has been a pleasure to congratulate and celebrate with these students, and we look forward to them joining us to continue their studies in the Sixth Form.”
Julian Drinkall, CEO of AET said:
“We are pleased to see the improvements at Bexleyheath Academy this summer. Particular congratulations go to Dawid, Harley and Naomi – they are part of a very small and elite group of students across the country and deserve to be recognised. We fully acknowledge that there is still much more to do, and we have appointed a fantastic new Headteacher and Executive Director to oversee the necessary improvements. I am confident that Bexleyheath will deliver significantly improved outcomes next summer, and rapidly become a Good academy over the terms ahead.
“At AET, we are wholly focused on ensuring that the education our academies provide helps young people go on to lead remarkable lives. We are now on track to make that a reality at Bexleyheath Academy and we wish all of our students the very best for the next step they take on that journey, whether it is further study or going into training or employment.
“The last three years has seen far-reaching changes at AET. Bar our name above the door, everything has changed – from the type of support we provide to each academy through to our governance. Everything is now geared towards the central goal of “remarkable lives” and it is wonderful to see the impact of those changes now coming through in each of our academies. The future is looking very positive, and my congratulations to everyone who is celebrating these results today.”
