Maths

When children across the country are asked how they find maths the buzz words that come across are: “boring, irrelevant and hard”. At Anglesey we strive to make Maths, “exciting, relevant and achievable.”

In our daily Maths lesson, we seek to provide children with the mathematical content they require in an exciting, relevant and achievable context. We support our children to become confident mathematicians through a 5-part process. At each stage, the level of challenge increases. We want our children not just to know the maths but apply their knowledge in order to really master the curriculum.

Our aims

  • Start and end with assessment. Accurate assessment of what children can and can’t do to inform planning and ensure common errors and misconceptions are addressed.
  • Ensure progress. Planning, marking and target setting to ensure all pupils make rapid progress from their individual starting points.
  • Focus on solving problems. Conceptual understanding, discussion and, maths and real life problems to form the heart of our Maths’ teaching.
  • Give children a maths toolkit. Focus on key skills in maths so children have a toolkit of skills to tackle maths with.
  • Nurture mathematicians. Opportunity in lessons to nurture mathematical independence, allow time for reflection and develop logical thinkers.
  • Aim high. Teachers communicate high expectations, enthusiasm and passion about mathematics to learners.
  • Make Maths Magical. Use a range of high quality resources to bring maths to life for our children.

Home Learning

Every week, children are set home learning activities to complete on Eedi.

As well as this formal home learning these sites may also be useful to use at home with your child:
