AET, one of the largest academy trusts in the country, has publicly committed to a new era of collaboration with the appointment of two new senior roles.
Ele Lewis has been appointed as the new Director of Strategy, joining AET from global consulting firm Bain & Company, with Unity Howard, formerly Director of the New Schools Network, joins as Director of Insights.
These two new roles will play an instrumental role at AET as the organisation looks to create a more open dialogue within the sector, sharing what works in an organisation at scale, as well as the lessons learned where things have not gone to plan.
An Accountant by training, Ele Lewis has worked at Bain & Company for the last 15 years, working with clients in the private and non-profit sectors on strategy, performance improvement and large-scale transformation. Ele is committed to education and social impact volunteering with several charities including as a Governor in a primary school in South London.
Unity is a well-known figure in the education sector, most recently as Director of the New Schools Network, an independent charity improving the life chances of young people by supporting the creation and long-term success of new schools. During her seven years at NSN Unity personally supported over 50 new free schools to open; a policy specialist, Unity has authored numerous reports on the future of the schools system in England and advocated for these ideas in the national press and in Parliament.
Rebecca Boomer-Clark, Chief Executive of AET said:
“I am absolutely delighted that both Ele and Unity are joining AET in these pivotal roles. For too long, the public debate in education has been far too polarised. None of this serves the sector well, and I am keen that AET plays a central role in helping create a more productive and genuinely collaborative public discourse – that means sharing what has worked well as well as what hasn’t – and, critically, what we learned along the way.
“The whole sector is maturing, and we need to ensure that the conversation matures too. That means being generous in sharing what we know about what works and having a more “open source” approach. I hope other organisations join us on this journey.”
Ele Lewis said:
"It is a great privilege to be joining AET in its mission of delivering an excellent education for every child. I am inspired to join a fantastic team and work towards greater collaboration and impact across the sector."
Unity Howard said:
“I’m absolutely thrilled to be joining AET at such an exciting time in the organisation’s development. It’s a huge honour to join the brilliant team there, supporting the new strategy and approach to school improvement to inspire every child to lead a remarkable life.”
