Today, Principals from AET schools across the country gathered at Sir Herbert Leon Academy in Bletchley, Milton Keynes, for AET490 day, a collaborative effort to develop strategies that will lead their schools toward our ambitious goals for 2028.
The event aimed to map out key milestones on the journey towards achieving excellence in education for every child, in every classroom, every day. Let's recap the day's proceedings and the collective spirit that permeated the event.
AET490: our vision for educational excellence
At the heart of the day was our commitment to the AET490 vision. This vision aspires to create a world where every child is entitled to excellence, irrespective of their background or circumstance so that, by 2028, 90% of our children
Are secure readers for their age
Pass the phonics check
Achieve the expected standard in RWM at Key Stage 2
Achieve at least grade 4 in English and maths GCSEs.
The event served as a platform for school leaders to come together and discuss how to realise this vision. This endeavour is not about settling for mediocrity; it's a benchmark to ensure that each child realises their full potential.
By the end of AET490 day, the goal was for our Principals to:
Feel energised and motivated
Feel that they have been able to work together on practical actions that will support our build to AET490
Feel very clear on our approach to the 10% and special schools
Feel a sense of connection with other principals
An action-packed day
After being welcomed at 10am by Emma Jordan, Principal of Sir Herbert Leon Academy, and Phil Humphreys, Director of Education at AET, guests listened to a presentation from Rebecca Boomer-Clark, CEO of AET, on rising to the challenge of AET490.
The presentation touched on core elements of the challenge ahead and focussed on key areas for improvement across the trust’s headline measures. As Rebecca explained, ‘the work is in the gap’.
The discussion went on to explore the features of a world-class school before splitting off into workshops to hone in on phase and subject-specific challenges.
Central to the discussions were the key milestones that schools within the AET network need to reach to meet their ambitious 2028 goals. These milestones act as the stepping stones on the path to achieving excellence in education, encompassing a wide range of initiatives from enhancing pedagogy to fostering inclusive learning environments, strong practice in the teaching of reading and empowering students to excel.
Additional speakers included Claire Heald, Ian Taylor and AET’s team of Regional Education Directors, who shared their insights, experiences, and wisdom on the journey to educational excellence.
A network built on collaboration
One of the most inspiring aspects of AET490 day was the spirit of collaboration. The event served as a reminder that education is a collective effort that is only made stronger by the collaboration and shared expertise of school leaders and educators from different regions and across the country as a whole. Thanks to all who attended and supported this event.
