Short description of the project
Online environmental cooperative project. Students will learn about the causes and consequences of climate change, as well as mitigation and adaptation measures, developing their skills and working in a collaborative and interdisciplinary way, seeking a positive impact on awareness, both in the schools involved, as well as in families and municipalities.
Aims
We will work on digital and multilingual competences as it is an online project in English. The students will have to create the final products with different collaborative applications and will have to debate, argue and discuss them with their international peers. As it is a project about climate change, it works on science and mathematics competences. Nowadays it is clear that our individual actions affect the global population, so we work on citizenship and the students' capacity for autonomy to make decisions that affect us all. In addition to the competences but related to them, we will work on the SDGs, especially 12, 13 and 15.
Work process
The theme of the project has been chosen after a brainstorming session with pupils from both schools, as well as a draft of activities and timing which is subject to variations depending on how the project develops and the number of teachers involved.
Pupils will communicate mainly through the etwinning forums and some videoconferences.
The activities will take place during school hours, using different spaces (future classroom, library, computer room and classroom).
October- creation of the project, parental leave, videoconference of teachers to specify activities.
November: Introduction of students, forum to get to know each other and creation of international groups, prior knowledge and netiquette and safety measures.
December: logos and Christmas cards. Logo survey involving families.
January: Getting to know our immediate environment (news commentary/analysis of school consumption/ SWOT matrix) and teachers' videoconference to evaluate how the project is going.
February: Causes and consequences of climate change and debate (does climate change really exist). Activity in collaboration with the library-readings on climate change and exhibition.
March: Adaptation and mitigation measures and comment on international news on climate change.
March: Adaptation and mitigation measures and commentary on international news on climate change. Critical thinking activities
April: creation of collaborative campaign and dissemination posters.
May: gamification - development of games and videoconferencing of students.
June: evaluation of the project, measurement of the impact of the project (change in pupils‘ actions) celebration of the environment day (information tables), exhibition in the school, talks and interaction with a senior citizens’ association. Videoconference at the end of the project
The responsibilities will be shared by all the member teachers, but in principle the Biology teacher will focus on the scientific contents, art teacher in the creative contents such as make videos and the English teachers of the different schools on the correct use of English.
There will be 3 types of activities, individual but with interaction between the international students commenting on news, presentations, etc... In small national groups, elaboration of logos, video of the centre with international interaction, exhibitions and activities in international groups, campaigns, posters, debates, etc...
Expected results
We expect to have a series of ebooks with logos and news, videos/podcasts/presentations of our students introducing themselves and informing about climate change.
Various international environmental campaigns and posters.
Games to help us understand climate change and learn environmental vocabulary in English.
We will create a public google-site with the projects developed, the posters will be displayed in the etwinning corner, there will be an exhibition with the campaigns in the library and on the 5th of June, environment day, there will be an information table in one of the streets of the city to raise awareness about the environment and a group of pupils will prepare a talk for a senior citizens' association.
We hope that there will be a positive impact on the behaviour of the school, pupils, teachers, families and the community in general (reduction of car use, littering, increased recycling, etc.).
