Parent Launch is an opportunity for parents to come together as your son or daughter embarks on the World Race. This event allows you to learn who Adventures is as an organization - our leadership, our staff, our vision, and our mission. We also provide a unique setting to connect with other parents of launching, current, and alumni Racers. This event is about having the chance to ask questions and get more information about what your Racer's journey will look like as well as your own.
How do I get details about Parent Launch?
Information will be available approximately 2 months prior to Launch. We do ask you to confirm with your Racer that they are okay with you attending.
Why does the Racer need to give permission?
Each Racer decides if they want their parents to attend. They are “on the Race” when they arrive in Georgia for training, not when they leave the US. For some Racers, having you there is fine. For others, it impacts their ability to concentrate on final preparations and training.
Do I have to attend the entire event?
Yes! Because Parent Launch is more about you and your individual journey, we feel that all of the sessions are important to attend.
How much time will I have with my son/daughter?
Overlap time with your Racer will generally include a worship/teaching time the first day and lunch on the second day. Depending on the location and schedule, it's possible there will be an additional meal together. You will be unable to interact with your son or daughter at other times during the Parent Launch or after lunch on the second day. They are on a full training schedule. Keep in mind that Parent Launch is not primarily about delaying your goodbye. It is about your journey, your questions, and your connections with us and with other parents.
What is the cost?
The registration fee is set to cover most of our expenses. It may fluctuate some based on our actual costs, but we do our best to keep it as low as possible. All attendees must be registered. You do not have to register your Racer. This fee offsets a portion of the cost of the event. You are responsible for your own transportation and lodging. We either negotiate a discounted rate with a hotel or provide a list of local hotels, depending on the details of each launch. [NOTE: Depending on Launch location and schedule, the meals that are covered may be slightly different than what is listed here. Details will be available on the invitation/registration site.]
Who can attend?
Parents, grandparents, and siblings who are invited by the Racer are welcome to attend! We are unable to extend the invitation to friends of the Racer (including boy or girl friends).
What do I need to do in order to attend?
The registration link will be sent as part of the invitation. Your next steps will be to register and book a hotel room. The email/invite will include hotel info, schedule, etc.
Since this journey is so much more than just what God is doing through our children, it's very helpful for every parent of a racer to connect with other parents and feel more connected to the larger vision God has for all of us. This happens best in community with the other parents. - Patrick P.
I would advise parents to come. To have a face, voice, personality and Spirit to have a better context of who my racer will be having this amazing experience with helps me feel more a part of the race and I feel I will be able to support and understand this experience with my racer. Of course meeting their families as well was great. Now when I see pictures I see the person not just another Racer so it also helps me care for them in prayer and support. - Carol E.
If you can make it happen you should. It lets your racer know that all parts of this process are important and that they are a priority to you. - Paula K.
We really feel like this is "our" journey now, rather than something we are watching our daughter do from a distance. - Kathy S.
It is great to meet the parents of the team your son/daughter will be with, gives some insight to the child. And it is a special blessing to meet and interact some with the Team. As a parent I don't feel alone. Even though I knew there was a FB page as well as other support for parents, the meeting and interactions made a HUGE difference. - Wendy H.
I think if other parents knew that it was a launch for them as well, that it was a mission for them also. It is not just to launch their child on a mission trip but to inspire them about what their child is going to be doing. - Robert D.
This is a culmination of God’s Spirit, Commitment, nervous human emotional tension, anxiety, Praise and worship all tied up in one launch event. Being there for a young adult heading out on a mission of a lifetime is life changing for both parents and Racers. This event is closure, renewal, self awareness and the ability to let one’s child go in God's command to "Go and preach to the ends of the earth in My name." Parents, if connected with their children, will be encouraged to know and experience the power of His Spirit as each racer builds relationships and then shares to the community they are placed in wherever God wants them. - Randy C.
