Ir Professor J.S. Kuang (鄺君尚教授、工程師) is Professor Emeritus of Civil Engineering at The Hong Kong University of Science and Technology. He received his PhD in engineering science from the University of Cambridge, England, and a PhD in civil engineering from The University of Hong Kong. His expertise lies in the field of structural and earthquake engineering, particularly in seismic design and behavior of structures and buildings, reinforced concrete, tall buildings, and computational simulation in structural analysis. His research awards include the Telford Premium, the T.K. Hsieh Award, and the Prize of Magazine of Concrete Research from the Institution of Civil Engineers (ICE), the HKIE Best Transactions Paper Prizes, and the Grand R&D Award of Structural Excellence Award from the Hong Kong Institution of Engineers (HKIE)-the Institution of Structural Engineers (IStructE).
Ir Professor Kuang is a Chartered Engineer and a Fellow of ICE, IStructE, and HKIE. He served as the President of the International Society for Computing in Civil and Building Engineering (ISCCBE), elected in 2010 in Nottingham, UK, and re-elected in 2012 in Moscow, Russia. He served on the Technical Committee for the Code of Practice for Structural Use of Concrete 2013, the Steering Committee and Review Committee for the Code of Practice for Dead and Imposed Loads 2011, and the Steering Committee for the Code of Practice for Seismic Design in Hong Kong, the Buildings Department of the Government of the HKSAR.
