HEADSHOT ROUNDTABLE EXPERIENCE
It’s time to get creative, collaborative, and conceptual! Photographers, coming up with creative ideas for headshots can be more fun than you think, especially with other photographers of all ages and experience levels coming to try their hand at more creative headshots. Is it time to update your own headshots as well? This is the best opportunity you’ll encounter to sift through dozens of different looks to find the best fit for you - not to mention learning from the techniques, gear, and interactions of photographers around you.

About the Experience
The Headshot Roundtable Experience includes:
A unique creative networking opportunity: Take advantage of The Photographer Studio creative community and the wider community of Edmonton and area photographers joining us for this unique, collaborative event. We invite you to ditch the mentality that your photos are 100% yours and come play in the sandbox with your peers.
Spaces: With over half a dozen different tableaus and backdrops available including white and grey seamless paper, red satin, lifestyle chairs and couches, and other options, everyone will have ample opportunity to get in touch with their creativity and collaborate with other photographers. Suggestions and workshopping of ideas are welcome here.
Lighting: You can create headshots using several different sets of provided video lights, or your own lighting setup, including strobes. Please note that if you bring your own lighting, you may be asked to keep to the rooms with enclosed space in order to ensure that other creators are able to work.
Models: Multiple people with zero modeling experience will be present to act as our muses and “clients” - each need headshots for a variety of industries. Photographers can also choose to update personal headshots by serving as both photographer and model.
Photographers of all education and experience levels - including you - are there to help and give feedback.
Your Hosts
All of this is provided FREE by your incredible hosts:
The Photographer Studio, Twyla Lapointe Event Management, and Admire Studios.
An amazing Host Venue: The Photographer Studio, a stylish venue that has been tailored by photographers for photographers with affordable space rental - for more information or to book space for yourself, visit their website at www.thephotographerstudio.ca.
Check out this virtual tour of the space by Tammy Deren, the owner - it will look a bit different when we're there, though.
The Event Team: This event was created by and run by Twyla Lapointe Event Management and Admire Studios. Twyla Lapointe participated in a headshot roundtable years ago - also generously hosted by The Photographer Studio. It was high time to update her own headshots, get some shared ones with her new Associate Photographer Rebecca Paine, and help a host of her friends who needed some new ones. Twyla as an event photographer and event manager LOVES events where everybody wins, and this one was a perfect fit.
FAQ
Will there be a model release?
In order to participate, you must agree to either or both of the following:
Model Release for All Images: You must release your images to be used for any purpose by any of those who signed the collective agreement in perpetuity.
Photographer Agreement: Headshots taken at this event can be used for any purpose except re-sale by both photographers and subjects. Each photographer will provide their select photographs in RAW format, and if desired, edited images. Subjects may pay to have photos edited or retouched by the photographer who took them, or any other photographer present.
Could someone else edit the images I upload in RAW format?
Unfortunately, it is not practical or realistic to prohibit others from editing your images in a collaborative event like this where most of your subjects will be photographers or friends with photographers. You may make that request on an image-by-image basis if you and the subject both agree to it, however, keep in mind that this is a sharing event from start to finish. It's not meant to help you hoard images for yourself. That being said, please be respectful of the work of others and it should go without saying, do not pass anything off as your own.
May I use these images in my portfolio?
Yes, however, please be aware that others will also be using photographs taken under similar conditions. The more unique your photographs are, the better - both for your portfolio and to distinguish them from other work created by those present. Be as creative as possible.
May I use these images as my standard headshots?
Yes. You are encouraged but not required to credit the photographer when possible. It is the photographer’s responsibility to provide the right information to receive credit as they prefer if the subject agrees to provide it.
Can I bring my own model?
Yes, if they are willing to sign a model release granting all participants use of their image and do not work exclusively with you over the course of the 2 hour event.
How will we share images afterwards?
A collective Google Drive will be made available to all event participants. All photos must be uploaded by March 15th, 2023, and retrieved by March 31st, 2023. You will be reminded of this by email with a few days notice.
Will my contact information be shared with event participants?
Yes, as each member of the group must provide their consent to share and/or model, your name and contact information will be shared with everyone present. Your contact information will not be used for direct marketing purposes by any of the host companies, however.
How is this free? What is the catch?
The Photographer Studio volunteered the space, and TLEM volunteered to manage the event. Admire Studios provided the equipment, manpower, and core models. Tammy Deren, Twyla Lapointe, and Rebecca Paine we all believe that when photographers work together, everybody wins! There's no catch. Just good old-fashioned creative collaboration.
