Puppy Board & Train

If you're a busy professional, have young kids or just don't have the time and energy to deal with the early weeks of raising a puppy, but still want a well-behaved dog, The Mannered Pup can do the work for you with Puppy Board & Train.
We will deal with the peeing, pooping, razor sharp biting, zooming through the house, shoe chomping, can't-stop-jumping puppy chaos so you don’t have to. Plus your puppy will learn important skills. In our board & train program, your puppy will go home with me, live in my home, be treated as one of the family and learn the following:
House training: you won’t have to wake up several times a night to potty your pup and your puppy will have developed a preference for going outside during the day through careful practice.
Crate training: your puppy will work on going in/coming out of the crate politely and learn that being in the crate is easy and a great way to relax.
House manners: your puppy will learn polite greetings, going in/out the door politely, keeping teeth off humans, chewing on appropriate chew toys.
Leash manners: your puppy will be comfortable on leash and learn that staying near you is better than pulling you around.
Acceptance of body handling and grooming: Your puppy will learn how to be comfortable on a grooming table, hold still for exams and body handling, and get accustomed to grooming sounds.
Obedience basics: Your puppy will learn to sit, lie down, stay, and come on cue at an introductory level.
My home is in College Place and I accept one puppy at a time, between the ages of 8-12 weeks. If you are within a one hour's drive from the Walla Walla Valley, I can pick puppy up, or you are welcome to drop off your puppy. Puppy will stay with me for 3-4 weeks. The time varies because each puppy is different and some puppies might not need the full 4 weeks to learn the skills we aim for.
Every day I will provide puppy with multiple planned lessons as well as in the moment learning. Safety is very important so puppy will always be supervised in the house and out in the yard.
I will provide you with regular progress notes, photos and videos so you can be part of your puppy’s learning journey.
While no dog can be programmed like a robot and your puppy will still be a puppy when it has finished our board & train program, your puppy will have an excellent foundation on which you can build. To that end, I will provide a go-home lesson for you on pick up day and a virtual check in to make sure you're able to maintain at home what puppy has learned with me.
The cost for this puppy board & train program is $1200, which includes 3-4 weeks of in-home training, regular progress updates, a handoff lesson, and a virtual follow-up consult. When you consider that boarding alone runs approximately $25 a night, this program represents exceptional value for everything your puppy gains--and everything you’re spared.
Because I only take one puppy at a time, spots are limited. I am also selective about the puppies I accept into my program to ensure a good fit for you, your puppy, and my household.
I'm Adina Pearson and dogs have been a serious pursuit of mine for over 20 years -- not just as pets, but as training partners, starting with my heart dog Rosco who earned his CGC and was a therapy dog in multiple venues. I've competed and earned titles in Rally and Novice Obedience with two of my own dogs and helped a friend title her miniature poodle in Beginning Novice Obedience. My training foundation was built under mentors with high-level competition credentials, and I hold a training certificate through GoodPup.
Beyond my own dogs, I've fostered multiple dogs for rescue -- including difficult cases that came in with wild behavioral challenges. A recent foster arrived at 7 months with no training foundation and now can heel on leash, a 3-minute sit stay, a 1-minute stand stay and can hold her position while a stranger approaches and touches her. That kind of work, done with patience and consistency, is exactly what I bring to every puppy in my care.
After years of training my own dogs, fostering, and learning from experienced mentors, I now offer puppy board & train for local families -- intentionaly keeping my client load small so every puppy gets my full attention. I train with positive reinforcement, clear structure and genuine warmth. My goal is a confident, happy puppy who fits into your life -- and an owner who knows how to keep it that way.
I can't wait to meet your puppy.
FAQs
How do you keep my puppy safe? I take your puppy's health and safety seriously. That's why before your puppy is accepted into my program, it will need a recent wellness check, up-to-date vaccines, a clear fecal, and puppy needs to be on a monthly flea preventive (oral or topical). In this way we can help prevent spread of infections or parasites. Puppy will always be supervised by an adult in the house or in the yard. When puppy cannot be supervised and overnight, puppy will be crated in our home. While I do have an adult dog who is playful and friendly, all interactions will be supervised for safe play after we test how they interact together. Your puppy and my dog will be separated as needed. Feeding will be done separated as well to prevent any conflict over food. Outside, puppy will always be on a drag leash for safety. Your puppy will only go on outings/leave the property with your prior approval.
What if I have an older puppy, will you train him? I do occasionally accept older puppies/young adolescents up to 8 months of age, but starting at about 5 months, the training focus changes from puppy manners to formal obedience. Feel free to reach out to inquire about this option.
Are you insured? Yes, I carry Pet Care Insurance (PCI).

This is Dolly, a foster I took in at 7 months with no training foundation and this is about 3 weeks in to our training.
Also Dolly, doing a 2:45 second sit stay. I didn't start the video until a bit into it, but she completed the task.
Dolly now holds a one-minute stand stay. -- a foundation skill we'lll continue building on.
