Legacy Modernization Calculator
Purpose
The Legacy Modernization Calculator helps you quantitatively assess your legacy systems and determine modernization priorities based on three key dimensions: System Stability, Business Value, and Modernization Readiness.
How to Use
1: System Stability (0-10 scale):
System Availability and Performance: Rate based on uptime percentage and incident frequency
0-3: Frequent outages, poor reliability, Significant performance issues
4-7: Occasional issues, moderate reliability, Acceptable performance with some bottlenecks
8-10: High availability, Excellent reliability, Optimal performance
2: Maintenance Burden (0-10 scale):
Maintenance Efficiency: Rate ease and cost of maintenance
- 0-3: High maintenance burden
- 4-7: Moderate maintenance requirements
- 8-10: Efficient maintenance processes
3: Security & Compliance (0-10 scale):
Security & Compliance Posture: Assess vulnerability and security control effectiveness
0-3: Major security concerns
4-7: Some vulnerabilities but manageable with compensating controls
8-10: Strong security posture
4: Business Agility (0-10 scale)
Business Velocity: Assess how quickly innovation and changes are conceived and delivered
0-3: Few releases, slow design and execution, long product planning and delivery cycles, always behind market needs
4-7: Several releases a year, moderate innovation, demand waits for supply, barely keeping up with the market
8-10: Bi-weekly or monthly releases, innovation and delivery continuous, market-leading
Modernization Readiness (0-100%)
Interpreting Results
Score < 40% : Stabilize First. Focus on system stability & risk reduction before major changes. Prioritize factors in the Red.
Score 40% to < 70%: Targeted Modernization. Address specific pain points while maintaining stability. Prioritize factors in the Red.
Score > 70% : Focus on Innovation. Your foundation is strong. Prioritize platform evolution and new capabilities.
