Students with Loans

You must arrive on campus with enough money to support your personal expenses.

Loan Timeline 

Loan certification**:

Loan certification can take some time; please allow 1-2 months from when your loan provider says they have sent the loan over to be certified. It is common for loan certification to occur after you've arrived on campus. 

Please do not reach out to request that your loan be certified, as we are already aware of all the students with loans. 

Loan Disbursement: 

After a loan is certified, it will change to a "ready to disperse" status. The exact disbursement date is based on Adelphi's and what your loan provider has set as the date. This date is usually 2-6 weeks after the first day of classes. 

We have a special note on your account letting us know that you have a loan, but you might accidentally get an overdue balance email while your loan is waiting to be dispersed. If this happens, please reply, letting us know you have a loan. 

Disbursement Methods: 

Dispersed to the university: If your loan is disbursed to the university, we will work on having that amount transferred to cover your tuition. 

Dispersed to the student: If your loan is disbursed directly to you, you must make a payment as soon as you receive the money to avoid a hold being placed on your account and late fees being applied to your tuition. 

Loan overage refunds: 

Most loans are approved for the total amount listed at the bottom of your bill, along with a small amount to help cover some of your other expenses. 

Only after the loan is fully dispersed will the refund process start. Refunds can only be made to a US bank account. We will let you know if you are due a refund and walk you through the process.
