I first became interested in education through teaching EFL (English as a Foreign Language) and flirted with the idea of making this my calling while I earned my Bachelors degree in Biology. After I graduated I realized that I loved learning and teaching science more than I enjoyed chasing after monkeys, or counting flamingos, swimming away from alligators or wrestling elusive bacteria in a lab.
As a teacher, I realized how unfortunate it was for children who learned differently to struggle with obstacles that made school harder than necessary. Looking back, I noticed that my worst memories of school came from times when I was expected (and failed) to do things as everyone else, or just did not think like everyone else.
It was then that I discovered my passion for Special Education. Everyone needs some extra support at some point. Special education just means removing obstacles to success, making material accessible to every student and giving children the chance to demonstrate mastery in the best way possible. There is nothing more amazing and exciting than seeing the idea "click" in your student's head, the face when knowledge dawns, and that light in their eyes when they say, "..ohh, I get it..."
I enjoy reading (Stephen King, H.P. Lovecraft, Jane Austen, Dean Koontz, Joe Hill, Stieg Larsson, Ray Bradbury, Vonnegut, etc.), comics (Asterix, Calvin and Hobbes, MARVEL, DC, graphic novels), watching movies, and listening to music (acoustic, metal, classical and opera)
I love nature and hate wasting paper.
I don’t like having my picture taken and I would not take a selfie for the world!
