¡BIENVENIDOS!

Hola. I will post each week's lesson under the class pages. Click on the class link above this description to find your grade. Weekly updates will be posted there.

I will add videos most days on the Videos from Profa B. page. These will be short log-style updates in Spanish.

The RESOURCES tab has a few options for individual practice if you are interested.

Abuela = grandmother.

Welcome to Spanish class. I am grateful to work with your students each week. Given our 45 minutes once-a-week format, our program is a language exposure model. Research shows that hearing language in a comprehensible context is the only way we truly acquire another language. This process takes a long time. We focus on making language meaningful through pictures, short video clips, songs, and cultural information. Students will develop a basic understanding of the sounds of the language, as well as short phrases, questions, and descriptions.

¿Quién soy yo?

I fell in love with Spanish language and culture in middle school. I graduated from Appalachian State University with my BS in Spanish education. During my time there, I did a study abroad in Madrid, Spain. I've taken 5 student groups to Spain since then, and have traveled in Puerto Rico, Costa Rica, and the Yucatán in México as well. I'm always amazed to see kids grow during our trips. Inevitably, someone will exclaim in the airport, ''Look, those are just like the words we use in class!''

My goal is to make the language as real as possible in the classroom. I hope to spark interest in and awareness for others, and open the doors to others cultures.

Unos datos de Profa Burdette.

I have two boys (Wesley and Andrew) and my husband (David) who teaches math and is the head football coach at Asheville High School.

I've been in Asheville since 2001. I taught at Vance and Hall Fletcher for 5 years. I then taught middle school Spanish at Carolina Day School for 12 years before returning to Asheville City Schools.

I despise worms and kudzu. If you want to get rid of me, just throw me in a field of kudzu, and I'll probably have a heart attack!

I love music and dance. I play Irish button accordion and upright bass. I also dance Salsa, Irish step dancing, and Contra dancing when I can. I love to cook and bake. I also enjoy sewing, knitting, crafting, and reading.
