Summer Reading Ideas

One of the goals of our Middle School program at ACS is to promote a lifelong love of reading. During the school year, we do this by nurturing a community of readers, teaching strategies for book choices that match students’ interests and providing opportunities to transfer reading skills and strategies into self-selected books.

It is often the case in international schools that students (many of whom speak a language other than English at home) make tremendous growth in English during the school year, but then regress over the summer months due to lack of practice. A great way to prevent this from happening is to read!

ACS believes in the importance of reading both for pleasure and based on interest. This website provides suggestions that were provided by the middle school students and teachers at ACS.

By clicking on the menu in the top left corner, you will find a list of genres to choose from–similar to the fiction section of the Secondary Library.

Find a book recommendation that fits your interests. Feel free to deviate from this list—if you already have your own list of "next reads”, go for it! THESE TEXTS ARE NOT REQUIRED, but are fun ways to find a new book.

During the summer, find time to unplug and connect with a good book (or two)!

Note: This book list contains suggestions at a variety of maturity levels. If you are unsure about a book, please read the Goodreads reviews that are linked and you may also choose to check Common Sense Media.
