2021 Athens City Schools (ACS)

Offers Three Optional Summer Sessions

1. June Credit Recovery Courses - FOR HIGH SCHOOL STUDENTS ONLY.

    • Eligibility: FOR HIGH SCHOOL STUDENTS -- Core failure average 40 through 64

    • Middle School students are NOT ELIGIBLE for credit recovery courses. Middle School students are eligible for June Summer School (see below).

    • Students in grades 9 - 12

    • Failed state standards completion

    • Limited to two courses per summer

    • Required attendance in person

    • Masks required

2. June Summer School - FOR HIGH SCHOOL AND MIDDLE SCHOOL STUDENTS.

  • Eligibility: FOR HIGH SCHOOL STUDENTS -- Core failure average below 40

  • Eligibility: FOR MIDDLE SCHOOL STUDENTS -- Core failure average below 65

  • Students in grades 6 - 12

  • Entire Course completion

  • Limited to two courses per summer

  • Required attendance in person

  • Masks required

  • $50 per course

  • June 1 - July 1 from 8 am - 12 pm every Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday at AHS.

3. June Credit Advancement - FOR HIGH SCHOOL STUDENTS ONLY.

  • Eligibility: Counselor application signed and approved

  • Students in grades 9 - 12

  • Entire Course completion

  • Limited to two courses per summer, unless approved by counselor

  • Virtual, attendance optional

  • Masks required

DELIVERY OF INSTRUCTION

ACS Summer Session uses Odysseyware, a web-based program, to meet individual student needs. Instruction will be delivered through a computer-based program with a certified instructor as the program administrator. All students will work at home.

Enrolled Athens City Schools (AHS and ARS) students participating in Credit Recovery courses (with failed course average 40 - 64) must attend June 1 through July 1, every Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday, 8:00 to 12:00, and receive a passing grade to receive credit. When the student has completed the assigned course and met Summer School requirements, the student will not be required to attend the remaining days. Middle school students are not eligible for credit recovery courses.

Final grades in Athens City School Credit Recovery program will not exceed a score of 70 on a 100-point grade. The final grade will be based on the grading range below:

  • 90 - 100 Recovery Grade = 70 Final Grade

  • 85 – 89 Recovery Grade = 69 Final Grade

  • 80 – 84 Recovery Grade = 68 Final Grade

  • 75 – 79 Recovery Grade = 67 Final Grade

  • 70 – 74 Recovery Grade = 66 Final Grade

  • 65 – 69 Recovery Grade = 65 Final Grade

  • 64 and below = Failure

Enrolled Athens City Schools (AHS, ARS and AMS) students participating in Summer School courses:

  • For AHS and ARS students with failed course average less than 40

  • For AMS students with core failure average below 65

Students must attend June 1 through July 1, every Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday, 8:00 to 12:00, and receive a passing grade to receive credit. Fifty percent of course should be finished by July 1. Entire course must be finished by July 14.

Enrolled Athens City Schools (AHS and ARS) students participating in Credit Advancement courses must have fifty percent of course completed by July 1 and the remaining course completed by July 14. The student may attend June 1 through July 1, Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday from 8:00 - 12:00 for help in any subject. Middle school students are not eligible for credit advancement courses.

who can attend?

Summer Session is open to students in grades 6-12 in Athens City Schools only. Regretfully, will not be able to accept any out-of- district students this year. Credit Recovery Courses are for students in grades 9-12. Credit Advancement Courses are for students in grades 9-12.

FOR ATHENS CITY STUDENTS:

  • Summer Session courses will be delivered in person using an online program.

  • Teachers will be available Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday, 8:00 -12:00.

HOW TO APPLY

ALL APPLICATIONS ARE DUE May 27, 2021

Applications and payments will be accepted online anytime or at Athens High School during the dates and times listed below. Full tuition fees are due at registration. See the ACS Student-Parent Handbook for fee waiver options.

June Credit Recovery - AHS and ARS Students Only. Middle School is Not Eligible.

  • $25.00 per course

  • Course failure-average is 40 to 64

  • Complete two forms to be eligible for this program:

  1. Summer School Application and

  2. ACS Credit Recovery Application

  • Required to attend each day until course is complete and requirements are met

June Summer School - AHS, ARS and AMS Students are Eligible.

  • $50.00 per course

  • Course failure-average is below 40 for AHS and ARS Students.

  • Course failure-average is below 65 for AMS Students.

  • Complete two forms to be eligible for this program:

  1. Summer School Application and

  2. ACS June Summer School Application

  • Required to attend each day June 1 to July 1 in person until course is complete and requirements are met

  • Student will have until July 14 to complete course virtually if not finished by July 1.

June Credit Advancement - AHS and ARS Students Only. Middle School is Not Eligible.

  • $300.00 per course

  • Course advancement-approved and signed by school counselor

  • Complete two forms to be eligible for this program:

1. Summer School Application and

2. ACS Credit Advancement Application

  • Virtual class - attendance optional

  • Required to have 50% of course complete by July 1st; Course completed by July 14th.

    • Completed applications may be returned and payments paid in-person at Athens High School only during the times listed below:

    • Enter through the front entrance of Athens High School.

    • AHS accepts check or cash ONLY. Online payments will accept a debit or charge card.

    • Make checks payable to Athens City Schools (with current phone number).
