Empowering Communities to Grow, Maintain, and Support Latin, Greek, & Classics for All Students.
Latin, Greek, and Classics programs—and the Junior Classical League (JCL) chapters that grow alongside them—have the power to positively impact students’ lives, strengthen critical thinking, and open doors to a wide range of opportunities.
Yet, too often, these programs might be overlooked or undervalued. This playbook was created to help teachers, students, parents, JCL members, Senior Classical League (SCL) members, Friends of JCL, alumni, volunteers, professional partners, and community supporters take practical, confident steps to build visibility, foster advocacy, and support programs at every stage from growth to maintenance to renewal.
Our broader community includes not only students and educators, but also the many alumni, volunteers, and professionals who continue to strengthen and sustain our work. Your voice and support are vital to helping these programs thrive.
This site gathers actionable resources—talking points, templates, videos, success stories, and more—organized around the real challenges programs face. Whether you are working to grow enrollment, defend an at-risk program, or simply help more people recognize the value of Classics education, you will hopefully find tools here to support your efforts.
We know that real challenges exist: budget constraints touch every school and district, and high-level decisions are made by leaders who may not always see the full impact of individual programs on students’ lives. But, we also know that strong, visible, and well-supported programs can change lives.
When we bring forward the real faces, voices, and successes behind the numbers, we create powerful opportunities for connection and support. This playbook is about focusing on what we can build together.
You do not have to be an expert to advocate for Latin, Greek, Classics, or JCL. Every voice matters. Whether you are a student championing a chapter, a teacher mentoring the next generation, a parent supporting educational choice, an alumnus sharing your story, a volunteer giving your time, or a professional lending your expertise—this playbook is here to support you.
Together, we can help keep Latin, Greek, and Classical studies vibrant, thriving, and open to as many students as possible.
Start with the themes that match your needs—growing programs, defending programs, busting myths, and more.
Choose resources designed for you and for your target audience—students, parents, administrators, alumni, volunteers, or community leaders.
Download, adapt, and share the templates, videos, and advocacy tools freely.
Stay connected—as new challenges and opportunities arise, hopefully this site will grow alongside you and will improve as a resource for others because of you.
This resource is being developed by the 2024–2026 Visibility & Advocacy Task Force of the American Classical League. Our goal is to create a foundation of practical advocacy materials that will continue to grow and to evolve with the changing needs of Latin, Greek, Classics, and JCL programs.
After its initial launch, this playbook will transition to the care of the [Insert Name of ACL Committee or Group] for future updates and additions.
We invite you to be part of that growth:
Share your feedback about the information and resources you find here.
Send us templates, materials, or ideas you have created or adapted.
Tell us your stories—what worked, what you learned, and what you would recommend to others.
Advocacy is a shared effort, and your experiences help strengthen our collective work. Thank you for being part of this community and these efforts.
