What is it?

Slack is a collaboration hub where you and your team can work together to get things done. From project kickoffs to budget discussions, and to everything in between — Slack has you covered. Check out this two-minute introduction video on why it was created. 

Definitions

Channels: In Slack, work happens in channels which are based on teams, projects, or even cohorts. 

#general channel: Every Slack workspace has a #general channel. All members (except for guests) are automatically added to #general when they join a workspace, and unlike other Slack channels, no one can leave it. This makes it a great place to share important messages, like announcements, that everyone should see.

Slack Workspace: A workspace is a shared hub made up of channels, where team members can communicate and work together.

Some of the things you will need to know about Slack are how to:

• Join an existing slack workspace using the link that will be emailed to you

• Working in channels (The #general channel, Join a channel)

• Set up your profile

• Download Slack's desktop and mobile apps

• Notifications on desktop and mobile

• Search and pins

• Direct message

• Sending Messages (Send and read messages, Edit or delete messages, mention a member, Use threads to organise discussions)
