Welcome letter emailed to all parents in Jacobson ELA ( I sent this in an email to parents 8-12-2020) if you did not receive the email you may want to be sure your information is up to date in powerschool. If you need to make changes to anything please call our data manager.
I wanted to reach out to you with some important information regarding your child’s ELA class for the 20-21 school year. I know this will be a year unlike any other, but I am very excited about what we can accomplish if we work together! Please read the information below to familiarize yourself with the course and my expectations.
First Day of School - Students can find the Zoom link for their homeroom teacher on the Western Alamance Middle website. Their homeroom Zoom meeting begins at 8:15, and attendance will be taken. Zoom links for ELA class will also be posted on my teacher webpage which is accessible from the Western Middle homepage.
Zoom Meetings – Live sessions will be held daily. Depending on the lesson, instruction may last 55 minutes, or it may be shorter with time for student practice. (Either way I will be on the entire 55 minutes to answer questions and help students).
Grades – POWERSCHOOL IS THE AUTHORITY ON GRADES. Canvas does have a “grade” for your student, but that grade only includes items scored within Canvas – activities completed on external sites are not included in the Canvas grade.
Supplies - We recommend students have notebook paper to jot down notes during the live Zoom sessions. We also suggest that they have a 3 ring binder to keep their notes in for ELA class. Earbuds are suggested to reduce background noise for students and to help with focusing.
Upon returning to school students will need the following items to use in the classroom:
Binder 1.5 inch Colored pencils
Dividers-5 Handheld pencil sharpener
Loose Leaf Paper (wide ruled) Highlighter
Pencil pouch Pens (blue, black, red
