Mr. Rob McConnell

Woodlawn Middle School Band Director

Welcome back students! Although this is my first year as a classroom teacher, I have spent the last 25 years of my life as a professional musician. Prior to moving to Gibsonville in June of 2018, I was a Trumpeter with The United States Air Force Band in Washington DC for 22 and a half years and a Trumpeter with the USAF Band of the Golden West at Travis AFB, California for 2 and a half years. While serving I had the opportunity to perform for people from around the world and also present master classes and clinics to students of all ages, backgrounds, grade levels etc... across the country as part of the USAF Band's educational outreach program. Through these types of interactions, I was able to speak with students about music and help them gain a better understanding of how it is used to not only entertain, but to influence and inspire, as well connecting people across cultures and backgrounds communicating through the universal language of music. I look forward to helping students here at Woodlawn Middle School gain a better understanding/appreciation for music and also share many stories/experiences with them from my professional career and time serving our great nation in this most amazing way. In addition to teaching, I am also a member of the International Trumpet Guild and a member of the North Carolina Brass Band, one of our countries only professional brass bands.
