Purpose/mission: UNC Greensboro’s Beyond Academics is a program for students with intellectual and developmental disabilities who are interested in furthering their education.

Services/programs/resources offered:
Comprehensive transition and postsecondary education programs like ours empower students as they transition into adulthood. Beyond Academics’ four-year Integrative Community Studies certificate – awarded by UNCG’s Office of the Provost – emphasizes self-determination, life planning, and career development.
With access to an array of campus and community resources, each Beyond Academics student develops a personalized plan to optimize their educational and life experiences in the program. Resources include individualized support, available during the week and weekends, focusing on co-curricular activities, including campus involvement, and personal skill development.
Monarch College Support Services: Monarch College Support Services offers an array of supports for students enrolled at UNC Greensboro (UNCG). Students in the Integrative Community Studies (ICS) program are offered personalized services for an optimal experience. Individually designed supports for students advance their capabilities for living independently, and students are supported each academic year through plans that can include:
Life Planning: teaching and assisting with daily living skills, community participation, interpersonal skills, personal health, wellness, and safety
Self-Determination: navigating campus, linking to campus activities, and developing life profiles
Employment: pre-job training, coaching while on the job, and determining a career path
Transition: continued guidance for life transitions related to community living, employment, and self-determination

Detailed information about UNCG tuition and student fees can be found on the Cashier’s Office website. Students supported by Beyond Academics are enrolled as full-time students and take at least 12 credit hours per semester.

Financial Aid: Qualifying students may apply for financial aid from the Federal Pell Grant program. Students with intellectual disabilities are eligible for federal financial aid thanks to the Higher Education Opportunity Act of 2008. Students must:
Have a documented diagnosis of an intellectual disability. Refer to the American Association on IDD for a definition of intellectual disability.
Be their own legal guardian.
Be at least 18 years old before August 1st of the Fall semester for which they are applying.
Have concluded secondary education with a diploma, certificate of completion, or equivalent before Fall enrollment.
Not meet admissions requirements for Undergraduate Admissions.
Have basic safety skills in unsupervised settings during non-service hours.
