The Acton-Boxborough Regional School District is committed to helping our students learn to be responsible digital citizens. As we all navigate an increasingly digital world, it's important to think critically, behave safely, and participate responsibly in online activities. Teachers and families can help children foster positive online behavior, and protect them from cyberbullying and activities that might compromise their safety or reputations. While our schools are dedicated to educating our students about digital citizenship, families can help reinforce the message at home. Following are several resources to support efforts to encourage positive online experiences. Note that All ABRSD students in grades 2-6 agree to follow the terms in the Empowered Digital Use Student Contract
Common Sense Media A nonprofit organization dedicated to helping families and schools navigate our media-driven society with research, reviews, recommendations, articles, guidance, lessons, and more.
Connect Safely a nonprofit organization dedicated to educating users about online safety, privacy, and security.
Internet Filtering
We strongly recommend that parents and guardians protect their children with Internet filtering tools that control unwanted and offensive content, and provide safe Internet access for families. With the proliferation of handheld devices, it is becoming increasingly difficult for parents to monitor their children's Internet access. Visit our Home Internet Controls page for more information.
Privacy Settings in Social Media Apps
It is important for parents to understand exactly what information their children might be sharing on social media. Check out ParentInfo.org for instructions on how to adjust the privacy settings for all of the latest social media apps.
Safe Internet Searching
Instead of using Google Search, bookmark and guide your children to use one of these 6 Safe Search Engines for Kids.
Apple Family Resources: a website dedicated to guiding families to choose how—and how often—their children use their iPhones and iPads.
On family-owned devices you can use the Guided Access feature to temporarily limit access to only one App. Guided access can be used to control which app your child uses while limiting access to other apps, including Internet searching.
