Dear Families of Eight Green Students:

Welcome to the 8 Green team!  We’re excited to get to know our 8 Green students and are looking forward to a positive and productive year.  This is a unique yet amazing time to be teaching and learning, and we can’t wait to start this year instructing your children.   However, our most important goal is that our students feel comfortable and know they are a valued part of the team.  

We recognize that every student has had a unique experience learning over the past several years.  Please be assured that your child’s teachers put meeting their individual needs to be of the utmost importance.  We are committed to meeting students where they are academically, thus ensuring that they have the foundation they need to pursue the eighth grade curriculum.  Teachers preview homework assignments in class, and the team also maintains a website that compiles homework for all five subjects.  Parents and students can find the link to this calendar here on the 8 Green website or through the R. J. Grey website.  When your student has additional questions about homework, please encourage them to ask the subject teacher. Since it’s important to us to help our students become independent learners, we appreciate it when students advocate for themselves.

What can you do to help your student become an engaged and independent learner? Talk with your child about schoolwork;  your child is more apt to communicate an interest they take in a class if their parents ask! Encourage your child to ask for assistance when they are struggling. Most importantly, urge your child to clarify with the teacher anything not understood in class and to discuss concerns that may come up.   In these ways, you help us to perform one of our most important jobs as eighth-grade teachers: to prepare our students to be responsible, engaged, and joyful members of a learning community.

We look forward to working with you so that your child has a successful and enjoyable school year.  We hope to see you at our Back to School Night on Thursday, September 28 from 7:00 - 8:45.
