Many residents are referred to Abraham House by Health Professionals and Social Workers who applaud the quality of care provided. For example, a specialist mental health nurse who has been visiting Abraham House in a professional capacity for over 3 years wrote:
“If I had a relative with dementia, I would love them to be placed at Abraham House. In my current role working with care homes, I can only emphasise that if a relative of mine were placed there, I would have peace of mind knowing that they would be well looked after."
Residents are extremely well looked after and their dignity and independence are always respected. A person centred approach to care is embraced and many compliments are received about the high standard of care provided.

Staff are trained to preserve and maintain the dignity, individuality and privacy of all residents within a warm and caring atmosphere, and in so doing be sensitive to the residents’ ever changing needs
Comprehensive and caring support is provided by our specially trained team. A loving and kind nature is an important attribute of all our staff. We carefully recruit people who fit our ethos and understand what we are trying to achieve. All staff are thoroughly vetted and all undergo rigorous criminal records checks into their background to ensure only the very best people are allowed to join the team.

We are passionate about good nutrition and good food. Our chef makes delicious food and a varied menu ensures all residents benefit from a nutritious balanced diet. Residents with special dietary needs are expertly catered for. In addition to three main meals per day, drinks and snacks are available at all times day and night.
Abraham House has a full activities programme and activities are held every day for residents. We are members of the National Activity Providers Association and have a member of staff dedicated to providing meaningful activities for residents. The programme includes therapeutic activities, physical activities, sing songs, and visiting entertainers.
We also have an in-house reminiscence newspaper called the Daily Sparkle that is specially designed to stimulate personal memories. There is a well founded body of evidence that proves the therapeutic benefits of reminiscence for people living with Dementia, and the Abraham House Daily Sparkle brings these benefits to our residents. Everyday a new issue is published and a weekly digest is published once a week. We find that residents derive a great deal of enjoyment from the publication
Most people are long term residents, though we sometimes have a bedroom available for those who need short term (respite) care. We find that most people who come for respite are so pleased with their stay they return time and time again.
Everyone enjoys a change of scenery and day care is a great way to achieve this. Our full and varied activities programme plus superb food and great company makes day care at Abraham House something to look forward to – whether its one day a week or every day of the week.
Abraham House complies with all government legislation and is an approved provider to Lancashire County Council.

In 2007 Abraham House gained Investor in People status, and in 2014 Abraham House achieved Gold Investor in People status at the first attempt. This prestigious award is given to organisations following in-depth assessment by external assessors. Abraham House was the first residential care home in Preston to achieve the Investors in People GOLD award, and remains one of the few residential care homes in the UK to have managed to achieve it.
It is widely acknowledged that people are an organisation's greatest asset, and for a care home to provide excellent care everyone has to perform well. To achieve this staff need the right knowledge, skills and motivation to work effectively. Here’s what Dr Fred Ayres, the independent external assessor, wrote in his report:
“Staff provided many examples of effective team work with people working together to provide good quality care for the residents”
"All staff at Abraham House are actively and persistently encouraged to develop their skills and acquire higher level qualifications"
After 10 years of Investors in People accreditation, we decided to let our accreditation lapse in 2017. This was so that the thousands of pounds that would otherwise have been spent on assessment fees and accreditation fees could be invested in a super new nurse call system for residents.
We are proud that our care home has been awarded the Gold Standards Framework Quality Hallmark Award for End of Life Care, recognising our commitment to delivering the highest quality care and support for residents in their final stages of life. This national award highlights our dedication to ensuring dignity, comfort, and compassion at all times.
Abraham House is a signatory of the Dignity in Care Campaign. The campaign's core values are about having dignity in our hearts minds and actions, changing the culture of services and placing a greater emphasis on improving the quality of care and the experience of citizens using services.
Formed in 1968, the RNHA campaigns strongly for high standards in residential care homes. Members are care home owners committed to delivering quality services to their residents. At a national level, we strive constantly to make Government and policy-makers aware of the key factors that help care homes meet the needs of their residents.
Feedback from residents and their relatives is important to us. We hold regular meetings with residents and their families and also conduct anonymous satisfaction surveys to help us continue to provide the best service we can.
