  • Start preparing your presentation and/or prepare your preview in the Discussion Forum

  • Start to do some exploratory research and look for a topic for your next presentation. We will be presenting again in Week 11 (June 21).
  • Catch up on the Discussion Forum assignments, and please read and comment on some of your classmates' posts.

Climate Change

Week 7(5/23)

  • Start thinking about our second topic: Oceans and Forests.

  • Take the vocabulary quiz
  • Spend some time preparing your presentations
  • Start presenting

Next week:

  • We will present some more (please come fully prepared), and record your presentation for submission.

Week 5(5/10)

Today we will:

  • Take the vocabulary quiz
  • Look at the notes in my worksheet with a partner and attach questions
  • Work on preparing your presentation

Presentation (5/17 and/or 5/24):

  • We may start presenting next week. Your topic should be related to climate change. You can work alone, with a partner, or in a group of three. Prepare a five-minute talk with slides. Use your slides for visual support (don't fill your slides with text).

Week 4(5/3)

Today:

  • Vocabulary quiz
  • Finish up last week's worksheet and practice listening and taking notes
  • Choose a topic for the first presentation and start planning

For next week:

  • Choose your presentation topic, and start doing some research. In the Discussion Forum, post a preview of your talk.

Week 3(4/26)

  • Practice communicating about the basic concepts related to climate change (worksheet)

For next week:

  • Catch up on the Discussion Forum. If you have already posted, read some classmates' post and comment on them.
  • Study the word list.

Week 2(4/19)

  • Review Yann Arthus-Bertrand's TED talk
  • Do some more research related to climate change; find an interesting article or video (it does not have to be in English); write a summary about it on the Discussion Forum

Week 1(4/12)Introduction

Today we will:

  • Go over the course outline.
  • Look at the Discussion Forum and think about some of the big issues.

For next week:

  • Study the vocabulary list. We will have our first real quiz next week. (I recommend making a Quizlet account and installing the app on your phone. If you make an account, log in and click here to join the Penguin Quizlet class.)
  • Write a short self-introduction in the Discussion Forum and tell us one environmental issue that you are concerned about.
