2021 Winter Storm Assistance

FEMA will have in-person disaster assistance specialists in Abilene Saturday, April 10th 11 AM to 4 PM. They will be available to answer questions and to help register those who had damage to their home or business during the February Winter Storms. They will be at the Mall of Abilene, in the Abilene Public Library-South Branch.

Please have the following available: Insurance information, if available; Address of damaged property; Social Security number; Phone number where you can be contacted

Direct Deposit: Disaster funds can be sent directly to your account. Please provide your bank account type, account number and bank routing number.

Utility Relief

City Light Ministries will again help coordinate efforts to help provide relief for those still recovering from the recent winter storm. Through a grant from United Way of Abilene, residents of Taylor county experiencing larger utility bills (gas, water, electric) can apply for financial assistance. To be eligible for this program, applicants must live within Taylor County and meet certain income requirements.

Once the application for assistance is approved, payment will be made directly to the utility provider.

Eligibility: Homeowners/renters with low or fixed income.

Documents Required: Valid ID, documents for income and/or fixed income sources, and the utility bill covering one or more days from February 15-20, 2021 plus a prior month’s bill.

The Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) has approved Taylor County, to be added to the President’s Major Disaster Declaration for Individual Assistance stemming from the record snowfall and extended deep freeze last week. Inclusion in the Major Disaster Declaration allows Taylor County and its residents to qualify for a wide range of federal assistance programs for individuals and public infrastructure, including funds for both emergency and permanent work.


Deadline to apply is April 20, 2021


Before you apply for assistance, take the following steps:

  • Take photos of your damaged items and home.

  • Make a list of damages

  • If you have insurance, you must file a claim before contacting FEMA.
