2019 Elementary UIL

We are very excited your child will be participating in Abilene ISD’s 7th Annual District UIL Academic Meet, and we would like to take a moment to congratulate students for making their school’s UIL team. Please use the information below to aid in planning for the January 26, 2019 contest.


The UIL Elementary School Competition will be held Saturday, January 26, 2019 at Cooper High School (3639 Sayles Blvd) with check-in beginning at 8:30 am.

Please park in the North (front) Parking Lot or the East Parking Lot (near the cafeterias). The check-in area will be in the North Cafeteria. See map below for more details.

Guests should dress appropriately for this school-sponsored event, and all participants must adhere to school dress code. It is suggested that students dress in layers to be able to adjust for any temperature changes. Some events, such as Impromptu Speaking, Modern Oratory and Oral Reading require students to appear before a judge in person. It is suggested that participants in these events dress up for the event, i.e. “Sunday dress.” School identifying apparel is not permitted for these events. UIL rules prohibit the use of costumes. Students will be seated on the floor during the awards ceremony, please dress with this in mind.

Events will begin at various times throughout the evening. Campus coordinators will share start times with families during the week prior to the contest, and a spreadsheet with event starting times will be posted at Cooper High School on the day of competition. Students should report to the CHS cafeteria 30 minutes prior to their event start time.

The cafeteria will open at 8:30 a.m. for events which begin at 9:00 a.m. Upon arrival, students will check-in at the South cafeteria with their campus representative. Parents will be redirected to the North cafeteria to wait for their student. No parents will be allowed in the South cafeteria, academic hallways, or event rooms. Parents are welcome to wait in the North cafeteria, outside in the courtyard, or in the parking lot. Event staff will assemble students approximately 15 minutes prior to each event start time.
