Sow, Grow and Farm

Sow, Grow and Farm

This project teaches children about the features and characteristics of land use in agricultural regions across the world. It explores the processes of plant growth and the effects farming has on the environment.

We shall use the topic to allow us to develop non-fiction writing skills , using descriptive language, punctuation and sentence structure. It will also allow Mathematical problems to be set in real life situations, whilst practising number skills.

In Welsh we will revise questions, answers and the vocabulary required for simple conversations including food, feelings and clothing.

We will cover

  • Literacy

  • Numeracy

  • Personal and Social Development

  • Physical Development

  • Knowledge and understanding of the World

  • Creative Development

  • Welsh Language Development

Our topic is in four sections:

Engage - this is the 'hook' for the topic. As part of this 'hook' Pioneer children will watch and discuss a video of a local allotment as we are not allowed to visit one because of Covid restrictions. We will write to local businesses in order to gain gardening materials in order to develop and improve the school ground using plants.

Develop - within this section we will be developing the topic, through planting, growing and investigating the topic 'Sow ,GRow and Farm".

Innovate - within the innovate part of the topic, this is the challenge that will be set - the children will be asked to design and make a model of their own Farm theme park.

Express - Create a leaflet to promote their own Farm.

It should be an exciting new term!
