The “Gahr Marching Gladiators” are Gahr High School's award-winning marching band that travels and competes throughout Southern California. This prestigious group is comprised of young musicians and dancers that share a passion for performing and strive for excellence.
The Concert Band is open to all band students. All students in the Concert Band must posses basic playing proficiency. Students receive an overview of music theory and develop the technical skills needed to advance into Wind Ensemble. The Concert Band will prepare and perform music for several concerts and festivals during the school year.
Membership carries the following responsibilities:
Attendance at all rehearsals, sectionals, clinics, and performances
Performance of concert and festival music
Maintain academic eligibility
Abide by all Gahr Instrumental Music Program handbook policies
All students must enroll in the Marching Band (Course #1720) to participate.
The Wind Ensemble is an audition-only performing ensemble that focuses on the advanced musician. The Wind Ensemble performs advanced literature and participates in several concerts and festivals during the school year. Students must have a strong commitment to rehearsal and individual practice time. Private lessons are strongly recommended.
Auditions are held during summer Band Camp. Audition materials regularly include etudes, scales, and sight-reading. Past membership in the ensemble does not guarantee a spot the following year.
Membership carries the following responsibilities:

Preparation of All-State/All-Southern music during Fall Semester
Audition for All-State/All-Southern
Participate in Solo and Ensemble Festival
Performance of concert and festival music
Maintain academic eligibility

Percussion Ensemble offers students a well-rounded approach to learning percussion instruments in order to develop general musicianship. Students further their percussion technique and skills, playing a variety of percussion instruments including mallets, pitched and non-pitched percussion, and auxiliary instruments. During first semester, the class focuses on the marching band field show. During second semester, students are auditioned and assigned to perform with either the Concert Band or Wind Ensemble and have one after school rehearsal per week. All students must enroll in the Marching Band (Course #1720) to participate.

Attendance at rehearsals during the summer
Satisfactory performance of the materials assigned for performance
Maintain academic eligibility
Abide by all Gahr Instrumental Music Program Handbook policies
Color Guard is a year-long performance group. Students develop technical ability and skills using flags, sabers, and rifles, as well as dance and other interpretive movement. During the fall season, the Color Guard performs with the Gahr Marching Gladiators. During the spring season, the Winter Guard learns their own show and performs at indoor competitions. No experience is required to join the Color Guard. If you're looking for a fun activity and want to meet some new people, come check it out!
