In this section you will see a description of each lesson and the accompanying resources.
The children will be working on the topic of similarity, diversity and respect. They will create a self portrait to help them think about what makes them unique and special. We explore this idea of ‘who we are’ so that the children can also learn about how other people can be different from them, that this is okay, and that we should respect others.
In this activity, children will learn about themselves, what makes them unique and the idea of diversity. They will be able to give examples of what makes them a unique individual and show respect for others.
Children will work in pairs or small groups to complete a 'Factfile' about themselves. They will be encouraged to help each other but also reminded that there are no right or wrong answers.
Once the children have completed their factfile, the answers will be discussed in small groups finding answers that are the same and answers that are different. Were there more answers the same? Or different?
As a whole class, children will be asked questions such as:
Were you surprised by your partner’s answer?
What did you find out about your partner today that you didn’t know?
This lesson will end with a recognition that in the group/class there are things that they share, make them alike, and things that make them different – and what an interesting bunch of unique individuals they are!
