🐾 Dogs on School Grounds
In line with Aberdeen City Council guidance, dogs are not permitted on school grounds at any time, including the playground and entrance areas. The only exception to this rule is for registered service dogs.
We recognise that dogs are an important part of family life and are often included in daily routines. However, ensuring the safety, wellbeing and comfort of all pupils, staff and visitors is our top priority.
While many dogs are friendly and well-behaved, their presence around the school grounds can present a number of risks:
Fear and anxiety: Some children (and adults) may feel frightened or overwhelmed by dogs, particularly younger pupils.
Unpredictable behaviour: Even calm, well-trained dogs can act unpredictably in busy, noisy and crowded environments like school entrances and pathways.
Health and hygiene concerns: There is a risk of allergies, contamination, or accidental contact with dog waste.
Safety risks: Close proximity to children may increase the risk of knocks, scratches, or bites, even if unintended.
We kindly ask all members of our school community to follow these guidelines:
Do not bring dogs onto school grounds, including the playground.
Keep dogs away from school entrances and gates.
Ensure dogs are kept on a lead at all times and under the supervision of an adult if being walked during peak school times such as drop off and pick up.
Dogs should never be left unattended, even for short periods.
If you have any concerns about the behaviour of a dog or its owner, please report this to the school office. Staff will address the matter appropriately to maintain a safe environment for everyone. If a member of staff approaches you regarding a dog on or near school grounds, we ask that you respond respectfully and cooperatively. Staff are simply fulfilling their responsibility to ensure the wellbeing and safety of the wider school community.
