Business Management
All parents/guardians are encouraged to directly join their child’s Google Classroom to view their digital learning and view completed/overdue assigned tasks.
Please model at home, healthy use of screen time/gaming to support the promotion of ‘using digital technology in a healthy way’.
Encourage your child to follow the ICT User Policy; fundamentally, no computer games, mobile devices/air pods stay in school bags (including when in the corridor), ICT equipment is respected and no involvement of cyberbullying outside the school.
Between the months of August to December, encourage your child to teach you their latest Google app classroom learning. Please sign off their Google Fundamentals Home Learning booklet routinely which should usually be in their school bag.
Check/discuss your child’s progress using their Skills Tracker on Google Classroom which should be completed throughout August to December during class time. From November onwards, you can also encourage your child to record any achievements outside of school on their E-Portfolio. (Pupils will be shown how to create their own E-Certificates and upload them).
Engage in discussion with your child about the value of developing transferrable skills for the future (unknown) workplace.
We actively encourage external partnerships with Industry. If you have expertise in the following areas: computing science/technology/renewable energy/offshore experience/ Business experience and are willing to produce a ‘what I do’ 2-5 mins video to show to classes or come in as a Guest Speaker to talk and take questions, please get in touch with the school.

MATHS
At home it would be helpful if you could:
Promote mathematical discussion with your child and promote mathematical learning during everyday activities such as using bus/train timetables, baking, measuring, travelling on a journey, calculating change from a purchase, using currency abroad, budgeting, using measure when helping with crafts, DIY etc.
Interact with revision materials on google classroom at an appropriate level, including useful websites listed on google classroom.
Encourage your child to bring their jotter to school every lesson so they have a record of their learning and they are able to review their learning at home.
Look out for information on Google Classroom regarding assessments and encourage your child to engage with the revision material available to prepare for their assessments.

Ask your child to let you hear what they have been learning in class to help develop their confidence.

Music
Help encourage your child to practise their instrument at home where possible. There are links to all the performing materials used in school on Google Classroom with helpful videos and audio tracks. Ask them to let you hear what they have been learning to help develop their confidence.
Talk about the music you listen to with your child and encourage them to listen to lots of different styles of music. In S1 they cover Blues, Rock, Rock 'n' Roll, Scottish Waltz, Latin American and TV music.

Encourage your child to explore different genres of film/tv/theatre.

At home encourage your child to:
Read through their notes at home to make sure they make sense and there are no gaps. Lesson slides can be found on Google classroom or theycan ask their teacher. Only 5 minutes spent doing this after school can help improve their learning.
Try different revision strategies, such as mind-maps or flash cards to consolidate learning.
Share what they learned with friends or someone at home, even a pet, as this helps make sure they understand what was covered that day.
