Young STEM Leader Award
Young STEM Leader Award
Course Overview
The YSL Programme aims to inspire more young people to develop an interest in STEM and pursue the study of STEM subjects and relevant future pathways.
The YSL Programme gives you the chance to inspire, lead and mentor your peers through the creation and delivery of STEM activities.
It allows young people to develop their personal skills, qualities and behaviours in a STEM leadership context. By delivering STEM activities, events and interactions in their schools, community or youth group, a YSL will consolidate their existing knowledge and understanding of the STEM concepts being delivered, as well as:
developing skills for the 21st century;
building confidence and resilience through a leadership role;
developing employability and career-management skills;
increasing STEM literacy, awareness and appreciation;
preparing skills and experiences for the ever-changing world.
Assessment Approaches
The course is assessed by the completion of an online log book to show you have met the criteria for the award. This will be completed on an ongoing basis throughout the year as you develop and deliver your chosen activity. The activity you deliver must take a minimum of 4 hours. The programme is offered at SCQF Levels 4, 5 and 6. On completion of the programme you will receive a unit award at your chosen level.
