NPA Level 6
Course Overview
The National Progression Award (NPA) in Legal Studies provides candidates with the basic legal skills and knowledge required for further study and/or employment where a basic understanding of the law would enhance career prospects (for example careers within the police, social work and within law and criminology). The award consists of two units which are assessed continuously throughout the year. Pupils will learn how laws are made, the differences between criminal and civil law and develop an understanding of criminal prosecution. Pupils will also explore the nature of crime and its effects on the individual and the community.
Pupils will learn through research, discussion and debate and have the chance to build cases for prosecution and defence through looking at hypothetical case studies. Pupils will develop their skills in citizenship, communication, problem solving, critical thinking and research.
The course is made up of two units:
Unit 1- Scots Law: An Introduction
Unit 2- Crime in Society
