Course Overview
The Leadership Award develops knowledge of leadership skills, styles and qualities. Pupils will learn about different leadership styles and be able to apply these styles as they take, or plan to take, a leading role for an activity.
The activity that pupils lead will be chosen by themselves while working in a small group. This will be based on the pupil’s interests and ideas. While the class teacher will be available to answer any questions on the group’s plans, the activity will be overall the pupil’s responsibility and completed with minimal support from the teacher.
Pupils will have the opportunity to hear first hand accounts of leadership styles from a range of people including the Headteacher; community ambassadors and leaders in business. They can use these for ideas and inspiration for how to develop their own leadership style.
The course is made up of two units:
Leadership: An Introduction (20 hours)
Leadership in Practice (40 hours)
Homework
There is enough time in class to complete most written and practical coursework. There will be occasional research homework or tasks to finish if work is not completed during class time or if candidates are absent.
Assessment Approaches
Assessment is continuous throughout the year using a variety of methods including written assignments, research projects and presentations. Pupils will collate this evidence in a portfolio. All assessments are internally assessed with external verification.
