Course Overview
The purpose of the course is to develop the practical skills, construction techniques and knowledge and understanding which support fashion/textile-related activities. The knowledge, understanding and skills that candidates acquire by successfully completing the course will be valuable for learning, for life and for the world of work. This course is practical and experiential. Candidates will demonstrate relevant knowledge and understanding, and apply this to planning, making and evaluating fashion/textile items.
The course helps candidates develop an understanding of textile properties, characteristics and technologies, item development, fashion/textile trends and factors that affect fashion/textile choice. Particular emphasis is placed on the development of practical skills and textile construction techniques to make detailed fashion/textile items, to an appropriate standard of quality.
Learning and Teaching Approaches
An engaging and supportive learning environment will be provided to encourage active candidate involvement. Pupils will use a range of technologies to complete practical work. Written work will be completed using ICT as well as some hand written tasks. New vocabulary will be introduced to pupils as we progress through projects to develop literacy skills. Pupils will use accurate measurements and calculations to cut patterns and measure seam allowances as well as for weighing appropriate quantities of dye for dying fabrics.
Homework
Homework tasks will be set and completed on google classroom. Pupils will be encouraged to take practical work home to make improvements and to practise techniques.
