Course Overview
The level 4 Modern Languages courses each build on the level 3 S1/2 course and aims to increase your knowledge and understanding of the language. You will study a range of topics in French and/or Spanish including:
Holidays and Travel
Health and Well Being
World of Work
Leisure
You will explore cultural aspects of the country whose language you are learning and you will become familiar with and learn to apply the rules of the language.
Learning and Teaching Approaches
In a Modern Language class, pupils are exposed to and develop competence in the skills of Listening and Talking, Reading and Writing. Activities include word games, paired speaking, reading of authentic foreign language texts, listening to native speakers, watching video clips, use of ICT to create presentations, group and individual work.
Homework
Pupils are expected to work regularly at home on the learning of new vocabulary and sentence structures. To reinforce class work pupils may also have reading and listening and writing tasks to complete at home.
Assessment Approaches
Pupils will be assessed in the skills of Listening and Talking, Reading and Writing. In addition to formal tests, pupils will be assessed informally throughout the course on the skills they are developing.
