Photography & Media is a huge part of modern living with the majority of us having cameras on our phones ready to capture a photograph at any moment. Would you like to know how to take better photographs and be able to enhance and manipulate the image to make it look more professional? Are you interested in video editing? Do you like designing graphics? If so, this is the course for you. The S3 photography course will develop pupils’ knowledge and understanding of camera controls and photographic techniques as well as video editing software.

Learning and Teaching Approaches
You will learn basic camera techniques, such as how to use the different functions of a digital camera in order to control exposure, focus and other appropriate settings. From looking at the work of other photographers, you will develop their understanding of subject matter, composition and the principles of creating successful images. Using Adobe Photoshop, pupils will be given the opportunity to use a variety of simple enhancements to improve their images. You might be able to take part in photography competitions and have opportunities to look at other forms of digital media through Graphic Design and Animation Projects. You will have opportunities to follow a design brief which will involve making creative decisions.
Homework
Pupils might be asked to take photographs and respond to photographer's work.
Assessment Approaches
Assessment will take place both formally and informally throughout the course. You will take part in self-assessment and peer assessment. Teacher assessment of your work will cover basic camera skills learnt, quality of photographs produced and final work submissions. Feedback to you is on-going throughout the session.
