Course Overview
The level 4 History course builds on the level 3 S1/2 course and aims to increase your knowledge and understanding of key historical events in the past in a Scottish, British and European/World context. You will study a range of topics including:
The Scottish Experience of the First World War: Why did ‘the war to end all wars’ start? What encouraged men to go and fight for King and Country? What were conditions in the trenches really like? How did WW1end?
Hitler: The Rise of Evil: How and why did Hitler come to power? What was life like in Nazi Germany?
Learning and Teaching Approaches
History lessons are varied and will include activities such as evaluating primary and secondary sources, using DVD documentaries and powerpoint presentations, individual and group work/discussion and internet research. Your teacher will set clear targets for you to complete and the work will be at an appropriate level for you.
Homework
You will receive homework on a regular basis. This might involve finishing off class work, revising for assessments or undertaking research into investigation work.
Assessment Approaches
Assessment will take place both formally and informally throughout the course. This means evidence on how you are progressing will be collected throughout each unit in a variety of ways
e.g. research work, presentation work, homework as well as formal assessments where some questions will test your knowledge of the subject; others will test the skills you have developed in the unit.
