Course Overview
The S3 Film and Media course is designed for those with a passion for Film and the Creative Arts.
Over the course of the year, learners will:
develop an understanding and appreciation of film through analysing a variety of texts from many different genres including non-fiction.
develop an understanding of the film industry including funding, distribution, marketing and technology.
develop skills in planning and producing a film project.
develop communication and problem solving skills through working with others on the project.
develop evaluation and self reflection skills.
Learning and Teaching Approaches
Through direct teaching, collaborative, pair and individual work, we aim to develop learners’ confidence in discussing film and the film industry using the correct language and terminology. Learners will study a wide variety of films and documentaries based on their interests. Learners will then apply their knowledge and plan, produce and evaluate a film project based on a given brief.
Homework
Homework will be issued on a regular basis. This will most likely involve putting film analysis skills into practice.
Assessment Approaches
Pupils will work on the following teaching units:
Film and the Film Industry: An Introduction, and
Creative Project
Progression
Learners can progress on to senior film courses such as National 4/5 Media or NPA Film and Media (Level 6).
