Course Overview
The S3 course in Drama builds on prior knowledge at level 3 and aims to develop your knowledge and understanding of creating and presenting drama. You will develop critical thinking skills as you investigate, develop and apply a range of drama and production skills. Four units will be completed.
Unit 1: Working with text
You will engage in research and begin to develop an understanding of how the social and economic background of a text can influence your performance.
Unit 2: Real life drama
You will explore how real life issues are used to create drama through exploration of a theme/topic.
Unit 3: Characterisation
You will explore characterisation exercises such as role-play, thought tunnel and hot-seating to develop your acting skills.
Unit 4: Production
You will deepen your knowledge of Theatre Arts in performance of a selected text.
Learning and Teaching Approaches
You will work with others to explore your thoughts and ideas through acting, directing and theatre production, using text and a variety of stimuli. You will begin to use research to help support your ideas. All pupils will be required to perform in an acting role but will also have opportunities to perform in a non acting role such as Lighting, Sound, Set Design, Props and Costume.
Homework
You are expected to revise over drama vocabulary and learn lines at homein preparation for performances.
Assessment Approaches
Assessment will take place informally against CFE Level 4 outcomes. Self and peer evaluation will be an integral part of learning to track progress and ensure pupils are moving forward. End of unit performances are also recorded and kept as evidence of a pupils’ progression.
