Course Overview
The course will follow a developmental process; it will lead you through how best to improve your Dance performance across various styles. Pupils will have the opportunity to negotiate the styles of Dance selected. Creativity will be developed through independent and group work when producing choreographic pieces. The key areas will be as follows:
How to evaluate own and others dance performances
How dance styles have changed over the years
What influences dance performance and developing these areas
Dance technique
Individual and group performance
The introduction and development of choreographic devices
Learning and Teaching Approaches
Dance lessons will be taught mainly through the practical context. There will be opportunities for you to use video analysis equipment to evaluate performance. From looking at the work of choreographers and dancers, pupils will develop their understanding of originality of movements and also the importance of posture, alignment and performance skills when dancing. You will set targets with your teacher and the dance techniques will be at an appropriate level for you.
Homework
Some homework may be necessary throughout the course.
Assessment Approaches
Assessment will take place both formally and informally throughout the course. Assessment will be made in the practical context.
