Course Overview
Biology is the study of living things and the level 4 Biology course builds on the knowledge and skills gained in the S1/2 Science course. You will develop an understanding of Planet Earth and Biological Systems which includes the following topics.
Cell Biology - cells and their interactions.
Multicellular Organisms - reprodcution, inheritance and biological responses.
Life on Earth - living things and their interactions.
Learning and Teaching Approaches
Biology lessons include learning through experiments and investigations, demonstrations, presentations, research, group work, active learning tasks, problem solving and note-taking.
Homework
Regular homework will be given to consolidate class work, develop problem solving skills and help with revision.
Assessment Approaches
There will be written tests at the end of each unit assessing knowledge and understanding and problem solving skills. Pupils will also be assessed on their practical skills and abilities to design and carry out experiments. There will also be ongoing assessments of performance in group work, presentation skills and research skills.
