Course Overview
S3 coursework is designed to ensure that all pupils develop a strong platform for later learning and for successful transition to qualifications at the appropriate level. Smoothly building on skills and experiences from S1&2, courses are process based so that pupils gain confidence in using creative and problem solving skills. The course has built in flexibility to offer excellent articulation and relevance while still retaining an element of personal choice and selection. As pupils progress the level of choice and independence increases accordingly. There are 3 main types of activity which may contain:
Expressive - Drawing, Painting and Printmaking
Design - Fashion Headwearand Accesory Design, Jewellery, Product Design
Art & Design Studies - Building upon vocabulary within Art & Design - Responding to the work of artists and designers. Critically refelcting and evaluating one's own work to the work of others
Learning and Teaching Approaches
You will research and investigate through drawing and recording from relevant source imagery. You will develop ideas through a progression of experimental pieces in both two and three dimensions. You will reflect, discuss and then select an idea /composition/ structure to be taken into the final production of a piece of artwork or design. You will study the work of Artists & Designers gaining knowledge of their creative process & various approaches to work.
Homework
Homework will be given when deemed appropriate. However, you are encouraged to take your folio of work home on a regular basis so that you can practise and improve on project work. Extra work is highly advisable and recommended for progression.
Assessment Approaches
Assessment will take place both formally and informally throughout the course. You will take part in self-assessment and peer assessment. Teacher assessment of pupil work will cover recording and observational skills, development and creative skills, media handling skills and impact of final piece of work in each unit in each project. Feedback to pupils is on-going throughout session.
