What will I learn?
During S1 we complete two topics of work. First we learn about Rights and Responsibilities. We’ll build an understanding of what rights we have and how our rights are protected. We’ll then investigate places in the world where people do not enjoy the same rights as we do. How are their lives different to ours? Are they better or worse off? Our second topic is Democracy and Dictatorship. We will learn about our system of democracy in the UK before looking at the system of dictatorship in North Korea. We will compare both countries to find out how people live and how society operates.
What skills will I develop?
You will develop a range of skills which are useful not only in Modern Studies but also in other subjects and wider life. We will learn how to make comparisons and summarise information. We will also improve our communication skills by learning how to form arguments based on evidence, make decisions and justify different points of view.
How will I know I am progressing?
Alongside reports, regular verbal and written feedback will be given in class. We will also give feedback to one another using peer assessment strategies. There will be one assessed piece of work per topic. This could be a storyboard, poster or factsheet to show what you have learned.
What type of homework will I get?
Occasionally we will give you a short homework activity to complete. This could be a question to research, a poster or leaflet to complete. Any homework will always be designed to deepen your understanding of what we are doing in class.
