The Girls in Energy course is a year-long programme designed to inspire S3 girls to explore careers in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM), with a strong focus on the energy sector. Delivered in partnership with NESCol and Shell UK, the course supports young women to gain industry knowledge, hands-on experience, and recognised qualifications.
Course Content
Introduction to the energy industry, with a focus on both traditional and renewable energy sources such as wind, solar, and hydro power.
Hands-on practical activities and projects involving energy systems, tools, and equipment.
Site visits to local energy companies and facilities to gain real-world industry insight.
Classroom sessions covering energy generation, sustainability, environmental impact, and health & safety.
Work towards achieving the National 5 Skills for Work: Energy qualification (SCQF Level 5).

Pupils who complete the Girls in Energy course are well-prepared to progress into National 5 a STEM subjects such as Physics, Engineering Science, and Practical Technologies.
